Single Use Phase Out.

The Australian government previously announced plans to phase out single-use plastic by the end of 2025. This is a huge move forward for Australia in its attempt to reduce waste. In Australia are alone we produce 2.5 million tons of plastic waste each year with 84% ending up in landfill.
The Queensland governments ban on single-use plastic commences on 1 September 2021 banning single-use plastic straws, drinking stirrers, cutlery, plates, bowls and polystyrene food and beverage containers. With similar laws coming into place soon with all the other states or territories. This is a huge step forward in the right direction.
What can you do?
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE
Just getting started, here are my top 5 tips in reducing waste.
- Skip the plastic produce bags a the supermarket. All that fruit and veg can go straight into your trolly. Or BYO reusable bags.
- Buy in bulk. Not only does this save you money but it saves on excess packaging.
- Invest in a good quality reusable water bottle, bottled water is one of the biggest contributors to plastic waste.
- Purchase secondhand, and donate goods to keep them out of landfill.
- Buy only what you need.
